Thanks to the rapid and continuous progress of science of technology keeping contact with persons living miles away is not a problem any more. Sitting in the United States of America you can call a person living in the Southeastern part of Asia within seconds. You just need to dial the required number and the person on the other side will receive your call within a while. Similarly you can contact with a person living in another part of the country and of course in the other parts of the state and the city. There are different types of calls that you can make to stay connected with your friends, neighbors and relatives.

Speaking about types of calls we need to go back in the past when telecommunication technology was first introduced ion the world. In earlier stage people could only make local or short distance calls by dialing a number. The technology was not so advanced and so direct dialing was not possible in those days. People had to request the telephone operator to connect them to a particular number and the operator used to make the connection by inserting the jack. In those telephone operators used to work as a medium for telecallers. Then slowly technology improved and people started making long distance calls which were known as trunk calls. Even in case of long distance calls people had to request the telecallers to connect them with the numbers they wanted. Though with the advancement of science and technology, making trunk call has become almost obsolete in the world, at a time it was one of the most important types of calls that people used to make.

Speaking about long distant calls, one must mention about STD and ISD calling services because these two types of calls are used most widely across the world now. STD calls are actually interstate calls and for making such calls the caller needs to put the code of the particular state where he or she is making the call. It is a paid service and the caller is bound to pay the call charge as if the call is received from the other side. On the other hand ISD stands for International Subscriber Dialing. It is also a paid service and is availed by people for making international calls. If you are a resident of China and making a call to Sri Lanka or London or Durban you are actually making an ISD call. ISD calls.

It has to be mentioned here that with the introduction of mobile phone, staying connected with people has become very easy and simple.
